Grannies against the far-right
We, GRANNIES AGAINST THE FAR-RIGHT (Grandmothers Against the Extreme Right or Right-wing Parties), are a non-partisan movement in Europe. The movement was founded in Vienna, Austria, in 2017 and in Germany in 2018. In Germany alone, we currently have 50,000 participants. The individual groups are spread across Germany. Our organization is decentralized, with most groups coming together on the OMAS GEGEN RECHTS Nord & Bund website. A working group of OMAS from various German regions has been involved in the Grans-United project from the very beginning.

What we do
Older women, known as “OMAS” (GRANNIES / grandmothers), campaign for human rights, women’s rights, democracy, and above all for the rights of others. Grandfathers, relatives, and friends are now also involved with us. However, the focus remains on the “OMAS“ (GRANNIES), as older women have often not been heard and women’s rights are among the first achievements that the right wing would like to abolish immediately.
Due to our age, we also belong to the generation that either still has its own memories of what a fascist state looks like or is very directly connected to this historical knowledge.
We are concerned to see that dark forces are regaining strength, not only nationally but also internationally. Forces that would return the world and society to inhumane structures. We have seen this before—in all its brutal harshness and with consequences that still affect us decades later.
That is why we are fighting back – in local and national groups, with information, demonstrations, discussions, and public relations work. Loudly, clearly, independently of political parties. Always peacefully, non-violently, and with a smile. For humanity, for diversity, for the future of us all.
How can I join in?
Germany: OMAS GEGEN RECHTS (Grannies against the far-right) are independent, regionally organized groups that all follow the same principles. One of the central points of contact is the OMAS GEGEN RECHTS Nord & Bund website. So if you are looking for contacts in Germany, take a look at our > list of regional groups or write to: kontakt@omasgegenrechts-nord.de
USA: We know that the „Raging Grannies“ and the „Bad Ass Grandmas“ are active in the USA, among others, but there may be many other groups you can get involved with. Please look around in your own country or state; we cannot do that for you.
